Home Scouting 2023 2023PlayersScouting Scouting ’23: Jalen Hooks, 6’7″ forward; Crispus Attucks By Jim R - July 28, 2020 FacebookTwitterReddIt Hooks is the consensus top player in the 2023 class, and while there is still some room for debate, he was impactful, starting as a freshman, on a much improved Franklin Central team. It will be curious to see what his role is now that he has enrolled at Crispus Attucks. The last year or so has, Hooks' game has been transitioning to more of a face up game, and by that, more of a face up game that isn't just him isolating in middle school games. He's been pretty skilled for a kid his size for quite some time, but how much of was going to translate early during his high school days remained to be seen. Hooks' shot mechanics look smoother each time out, and he's a willing defender who can defend the rim and rebound. He's better rebounding on the defensive end than the offensive end. His motor on the offensive glass needs to be more consistent, but a lot of kids in his position, picking up fouls by being aggressive is often discouraged. What could blossom first is his ability to drive off the catch, and that would extremely deadly with off ball movement. As today's game drifts toward smaller, more skilled and agile power forwards, Hooks has the requisite for that position already. He'll be able to guard multiple positions as he gets older, and it's easy see him becoming a threat from the 3pt line too.
