The Recap: The Barons came out hot and never looked back. DeKalb went to Connor Penrod early and often and he didn't disappoint. Role players were very effective for DeKalb, also, as they knew their roles and played them well. Northrop's full court press ended up not being enough to close the gap, and DeKalb hit their free throws down the stretch to seal it.

Four Takes:

  • Northrop senior Khamani Smith really looked like he was in mid-season form in this one (24 and 6). Mid range game was on point and played tremendous D. Really will be a great player at Rio Grande.
  • As mentioned above, 2022 6'6" Connor Penrod had a great game, finishing with 22 points and 9 rebounds. He was successful in the post early, and was able to clean up the boards on the offensive end. I'd like to see Connor get a little stronger to see him be able to bang in the post a little more and battle for rebounds.
  • I first saw 2021 guard Cole Richmond the summer of 2016 down at Noblesville and was really impressed. I saw that same Cole Richmond on Wednesday night. He was all over the floor, was a vocal leader, disruptive on D, and just played really well. Finished with 18 points. He would make a D3/NAIA school very happy for 4 years.
  • Roll players for the Barons showed up in this one. Nolan Nack finished with 13 knocking down 4 big threes.
