The Recap: Lawrence Central jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Play was sloppy on both ends, but LC attacked and finished in transition.  Attucks is 0-2 vs. 4A teams, which is an issue because they are 4A due to the IHSAA 'success factor' clause.

Six Takes:

  • Lawrence Central played tonight without Nijel Pack. The 5'11" senior guard, committed to Kansas State, is reportedly nursing tendinitis. It opened the door for a more active DeAnte Davis, and he responded. 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists, Davis showed a higher level of playmaking.
  • Attucks was out of sorts from the start, and it didn't get much better. The ball stuck in the hands of Jason Hall and Sincere McMahon, two talented guards, and their offense stalled.
  • DeAndre Davis was his normal active self, and he was excellent leading the break.
  • Really want to see Jaylen Carson play with a better motor. The talented 6'6" junior forward is more skilled than he showed tonight, but Attucks has a slew of guards, pushing Carson's opportunities inside more.
    • Carson isn't a low post player, but he would be effective in drop offs or ball screen action. Attucks didn't get him involved much tonight.
  • Jason Graves, 6'1" senior guard, started strong. The transfer from Pike is a willing defender and unafraid to step into a shot. He also moves the ball when he doesn't have a play.
