This ended up being a 13 point game but it wasn't really that close. Carmel's defense shut down Valpo, and Carmel's size was just too much as well. This game was a good gauge for Valpo to see where they were in regards to hanging with one of the top teams in the state. Unfortunately for them it didn't go as planned. On the other side, Carmel looked good. Bigger, stronger, faster some might say. Seemed to outmatch Valparaiso at all positions.

Last year in the Champions of Character Classic at Grace College, we learned about Aiden Lambert. Impressed with his scoring early and playmaking late, the 6'3" senior guard has continued to improve his game. A full year later, Lambert in Fort Wayne Snider's win over Merrillville exploded for 51 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, making Lambert Courtside Indiana's Player of the Week for the week of December 14-December 19.

Mishawaka Marian was strong for the first 12 minutes of the game, leading 30-26. They weren't bullying Westfield, but they were getting offensive rebounds and contesting most of whatever Westfield put up. They were aided by Braden Smith not connecting from behind the 3pt line in the first, but they were sound defensively.
Westfield closed out the second quarter on a 10-0 run, taking a 36-30 lead to the locker room, and they really never looked back. Marian was only able to score 9 points the from that point on.
The Vikings didn't take long to impose their will on 21st, as they got out to an early 10-4 lead and didn't look back. Junior forward Mason Jones, led a balanced attack for the Vikings that had 8 guys get in the books. 21st stuggled with Valpo's defense, and rarely went to senior big man Eric Price (6'10) in the post. When they did, he scored it. This was a good test for both squads, but it didn't really live up to the hype coming in as you never really felt like Valparaiso was going to lose control. Western Michigan, Valparaiso, and PFW were all in for this one.
