Tied at the half, a 12-2 run by Carmel mid-way through the third quarter put Carmel in control of the game.  Leading as big 13 points, Zionsville was able to slowly cut it the deficit to five, but they never had the ball down two possessions.

  • For the first quarter and half, it seemed whenever Zionsville needed a basket, Maguire Mitchell, 6'6" senior wing, and Drew Snively, 6'5" answered the call.  Not that they came easily, but without question, the offense would turn over until one of them found an opening.
    • Ultimately Zionsville couldn't find anyone else to step up offensively.
  • That changed mid-way through the second quarter Carmel's JaMichael Fountain was moved onto Snively.  Snively scored one basket the rest of the game.
    • Fountain's defense and rebounding sparked Carmel in the second half, as the 6'0" junior guard created turnovers and grabbed a couple of offensive rebounds.
  • Carmel's main offensive production in the first half came through Alex Couto.  The 6'0" senior guard scored Carmel's first eight points, as others started to get going, he was still around for big shots to stem Zionsville's attempt to get back into the game.
  • Evan Harrell, 6'8" junior forward, got more aggressive in the second half.  He did hit a 3PTER in the first half, but his presence in the high post and as a roll man opened up the court, creating opportunities for himself and others.
  • One of the big differences in this game were the extra possessions Carmel created via Zionsville loose ball turnovers and Carmel converting off offensive rebounds.
