The Recap:  Behind junior center, Caleb Furst, Blackhawk Christian jumped out to a 10-2 lead, as Furst really went at Trey Kaufman hard.  Kaufman, 6’8” junior forward, spent much of the game in and out foul trouble.  Luckily for Silver Creek, Kooper Jacobi was the best player on the floor.

The 6’5” junior forward scored 26 of his 36 points in the first half and single handedly kept the 3A state champs in the game.  Kaufman’s second half was much improved, and Jacobi moved over to guard Furst, slowing his production down.  The Creek grabbed the lead and closed out a 78–74 victor.

Five Takes:

  • Furst has improved his agility, and his size bothered Kaufman on both ends of the floor. His footwork in the low post is excellent.  Furst will eventually become a plus-shooter for his position and is capable of a straight line drive and finish.
  • Furst moved over to guard Jacobi when Kaufman was on the bench and stayed on him for much of the second half.
  • Furst was better than Kaufman tonight, but Kaufman still showed some of what his potential is.  His 3pter midway through the 4th quarter pretty sealed the game for SC, and he’s able to handle the ball in transition, finding Jacobi a couple of times. Still see him as a skilled PF.
  • Not sure if it was knowing he had to step as Kaufman struggled early, but Jacobi was on a mission tonight.  He scored from all three levels and with a variety of finishes.  He attacked in transition, and in the half court, I’m not really sure he was passing it unless he driving into Furst.  There wasn’t anyone else on the floor he couldn’t finish over.  Jacobi moved over on Furst when Kaufman was down, and he bothered Furst.
  • Brandon Northern, 5’11” sophomore point guard, makes completes a nice trio for Silver Creek.
