The Indians pushed a lead to 11 at one point in the 3rd, which was the biggest lead for either team. Chesterton fought back behind senior leaders Justin Sims and Tyler Parrish who both had great games. Parrish knocked down some big shots, not only at the rim, but also from way outside. Handled the ball very well and made good decisions. Sims had 2 big blocks to seal the victory, as well as finishing with a double double, which he has a great chance to average this season. Both receiving interest from Crossroads schools, and would be a great fit at that level. Sophomore Logan Pokorney also hit some big time shots for the Trojans. I still feel like the Indians are trying to figure out their rolls on the offensive in, as their full court defensive pressure gave the Trojans fits. But in the end it just wasn't enough. Both of these teams look to make deep runs in the tournament.

  • Sticking with the Indians, they were led by 6'3 junior Chase Konieczny. This isn't a surprise as Chase holds a Toledo offer, and expects to land more offers in this D1 range. He hit some really nice shots, especially in the paint while getting the ball in the post. With is length and jumping ability he is able to elevate over defenders. Also able to hit a fade away with consistency. Rebounds position well and can also knock down the 3. Very good two way player.
  • A few underclassmen also showed some flashes for St Joe. Junior Brashaun Woods, Sophomore Nick Shrewsberry, and freshmen Elijah King were all contributors in the loss. Woods is a solid lefty who is able to get to the basket and finish at the rim. Also a solid passer. Shrewsberry is working on his role for this squad which is also a new home to him. Known as a shooter, I think once he settles in and gets the offensive side of the ball figured out, and figure out consistently, he will be a big piece to the puzzle for St Joe. 6'2 guard Elijah King was able to come in and contribute defensively as one of their top defenders. Showed he can shoot the ball as well as make good decisions with the ball. Lots of upside for these 3.
  • On the flip side of the ball were underclassmen Logan Pokorney (6'3 soph) and 5'10 freshman Tobias Ray. These two will be the key players returning after this season is all said and done. They will definitely be a very solid 1, 2 punch for the Trojans. Pokorney is a knock down shooter with range. Ray is great and dependable on the ball. Also showed some range and didn't force anything. Definitely two players to keep an eye on moving forward.

In the end, it was Markus Burton and the Kingsmen who survive and advance, as they say. Juniors Tyler Parrish and Justin Sims led the way for the Trojans. While 6'1" freshmen Logan Pokorney is a name to know going forward for Chesterton.

2023 Joey Garwood - 6'1" Guard - Penn

  • Finished this one with 17 and hit some timely shots. Got himself to his spots and teammates found him. Wasn't just a perimeter player. Did well defensively and was solid with the ball in his hands. Key piece today for Penn.

2023 Joe Smith - 5'11" Guard - Penn

  • Was locked up on Tyler Parrish as he's usually on the opponents best offensive player. Finished with 6 points and had a couple of big steals. It's usually either him or Garwood gettin it done with Burton. Has D3 and NAIA interest.

2024 Tyler Parrish - 6'3" Guard - Chesterton

  • Smooth operator who doesn't get rattled. Solid combo guard who can play on or off the ball. Knocks down shots from outside and can also take his man to the rack to finish or dish off. Really solid player who should be getting NAIA looks at the very least.

2024 Justin Sims - 6'6" Forward - Chesterton

  • Started the game strong and was able to do work underneath. Still progressing but all the tools are there. Can block shots and get out in transition. Capable of hitting from outside but not his go to. Really like where he is trending, and like Parrish, should be getting NAIA looks at a minimum.

2026 Logan Pokorney - 6'1" Guard - Chesterton

  • Name to know going forward. Guard who knocked down a couple nice shots. Played well and did't look like a freshman. Solid on D and worked. Keep a look out!
