He hit a 3, a runner in the lane, and a dunk in traffic. Guerin Catholic did a really good job on Sisley from there. They bracketed him and got physical with him and made it tough. Robert Sorensen was the dude for Guerin Catholic. He hit shots from all over the floor and carried Guerin the whole way. Junior Bryson Cardinal didn’t have the offensive output he’s had over his first few games but he had the challenge of sticking Sisley and getting physical with him. Guerin Catholic needs another perimeter scorer to really round out their team and lucky for them, Jack Cherry will be back from injury and will be another talented perimeter player along with Sorensen.

*5’10 Senior guard Robert Sorensen was the player of the day (in the games I saw) for Guerin Catholic. Sorensen had 29 of Guerin’s 52. Sorensen plays with so much confidence  and has a feel for the game you can’t teach. He really had his pull-up jumper going Saturday and showed the ability to get to the rim and finish with both hands. Sorensen looks like an NAIA kid to me or a really good D3 program.

*2025 4 star Trent Sisley had flashes of special Saturday afternoon. His athleticism and fluidness in traffic continues to progress. He had 2 really impressive dunks in traffic. Sisley is going to draw double and triple teams all year and Saturday he made some mistakes in those situations, but he’s going to need other guys to consistently step up. He does need to continue to work in his shot making from the perimeter to really solidify himself as a HM 3. Sisley ended up with 13 points and ended up fouling out with around 3 minutes left. Certainly not one of Sisley’s best games, but you can see the talent and see why he has the offers he does.

Four Takes:

  • Thomas’ jump shot is getting to the point where it’s looking consistent, and that changes things for Brownsburg’s outlook and in a lot of ways to his recruiting.  The one knock on the 6’5” junior guard has been his shot mechanics and his shooting.  Both are much improved and fluid.  
  • Lucas, 6’1” senior guard, provides additional shooting for Brownsburg, and they get lockdown type defense from Luke Lacey, 6’1” junior point guard and Quentin Bragg, 6’0” junior guard. 
  • Blake Sisley’s range is showing improvement as well.  The recruiting floor for the 6’9” junior forward for Heritage Hills is at the mid major level, but as he becomes “stretchier” with his range, do high majors start to take deeper looks?
  • Murray Becher, 6’4” senior guard, and Simon Scherry, 6’2” senior guard, both were playing well into the fourth, but they struggled as Brownsburg amped up the pressure.
]]> https://courtsideindiana.com/games/game-takes-brownsburg-vs-heritage-hills/feed/ 0 POTW: Week of Monday, Dec 2-Sunday, Dec 8 https://courtsideindiana.com/players/potw-week-of-monday-dec-2-sunday-dec-8/ https://courtsideindiana.com/players/potw-week-of-monday-dec-2-sunday-dec-8/#respond Tue, 10 Dec 2019 15:08:22 +0000 https://www.courtsideindiana.com/?p=506 This week wasn't as easy week one.  This week provided another reported triple double, as Evansville Bosse's 6'10" senior forward totaled Kiyron Powell 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks in a win over Terre Haute South.  Malik Stanley, 5'11" junior point guard, helped Coach Garrett Winegar snag his first two wins as a varsity coach, averaging 29.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 4 spg in wins over Tech (39 points) and Fort Wayne Bishop Luers.  Cardinal Ritter's senior forward Damon Ogletree like turned in the best single performance in the Indianapolis area with 30 points and 22 rebounds in a win over Metropolitan.  

The Player of the Week presented by the Metro Indy Basketball for the week of December 2-December 8 is Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian's Caleb Furst.  In a 103-59 win over Fort Wayne North, the 6'10" junior center finished with 29 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists, going 9-10 from the FT line.  In their win 74-48 win over New Haven Furst added 23 points, 19 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks, going 7-7 from the FT line.

Competing this year at the 2A level, due to the IHSAA's success factor, Furst has Blackhawk  Christian off to a good start as they vie to be the first team in the class era to win back to back championships in multiple classes.  (Two teams have reach the state finals in back to back years in multiple classes, Harding and Bowman Academy, but both went 1-1 in those games.)
