Riley led early in a turnover filled contest. But in the end the upperclassmen of LaPorte proved to be too much for the Wildcats.

  • LaPorte 2024 forward Rylan Kieszkowski is really someone coaches need to keep an eye on. Good size and length. Can guard multiple positions and shoots it well. A little bit of a post game could be just what he needs to see the D1 level. Great prospect going forward.
  • The hot name to know coming into this one was 5'8" Riley 2025 guard Marvin Schindler. He just couldn't get anything going in this contest. Seems to be a little better off the ball to me, but his size is tricky for a 2 guard. Hit a couple 3s and got to the basket a couple times, but otherwise was shutdown. Still a kid who needs to be seen, so we'll chalk this one up to early season growing pains.
  • Two other names that showed some flashes for Riley were a pair of 2024s in 6'5" forward Payton Baird, and 6'1" guard Manny Hill. Baird had a nice 2 dribble baseline dunk late in the 3rd. And Hill knocked down a couple of 3s in a row at one point. By this time the Wildcats were scrambling to get back into the game.
  • The Slicers showed me that they can definitely compete for a Sectional 3 title. Improved from last years 11-12 squad, LaPorte is led by 2023 guard Kyle Kirkham who took things over last night. Gets to the basket well and is strong enough to finish through contact. Also a capable shooter. Although they lack depth, look for them to make some noise come March.
