Never have I been impressed more with a team that lost by 24 points. Carroll’s future is BRIGHT. Saturday night they just ran into Markus Burton. The game was close through the first quarter and halfway through the second quarter. Halfway way through the second quarter Markus Burton just started taking the ball from Carroll. Penn is really hard to deal with when Burton has it going, but when you add in Joey Garwood and Joe smith knocking down corner 3’s, it can get out of hand in a hurry. Coming into the game I thought this was a trap game for Penn. They just came off an emotional, huge atmosphere game against rival Mishawaka Marian, but that didn’t seem to effect them in this one.

* Markus Burton was remarkable like he’s been all season. Carroll tried a box and one a few other things to try and slow him down but nothing seemed to work on Burton. Deep threes, pull ups, finishes at the rim over and through defenders- Burton had it going all night. He finished with 35 points.

* Joe Smith and Joey Garwood were huge for Penn as well. Burton draws a lot of attention so when he gets by his defender, Smith or Garwood’s defender has to step over which lead to a lot of corner 3’s for these two. Smith ended with 16 points and Garwood had 14.

* Sophomore Drelyn Truesdale was the man again for the Carroll Chargers. He was very limited this game with foul trouble trying to guard Burton, but he ended with 17 points. Truesdale is long and athletic and glides to the rim, but his jumper is smooth as well. Hit 2 threes tonight.

* Juniors Jaxon Pardon and Cannen Houser played well for Carroll. Pardon had 2 elite finishes around elite size and length from Penn’s bigs. Houser had some nice finishes as well and got above the rim to finish one as well. Both missed some shots they usually make but both still impacted the game. Pardon finished with 12 and Houser had 10.
