The Recap: Munster scored the first 6 points of the game thanks to feeding senior big man Jeffrey Hemmelgarn in the post, as they dominated the contest from start to finish. Although they were patient, Crown Point had no answer for the Munster zone. Munster won 41-28.

Five Takes:

  • Munster’s zone gave Crown Point fits all night. So much so that they were held to 4 points in the 2nd quarter and held scoreless in the 3rd. Their pressure lead to turnovers and easy fast break buckets.
  • Crown Point was able to do most of its damage on offensive rebounds. They were very patient all night, but lack a true go-to scorer and shooter in a game like this to help take apart the zone. Young squad.
    • Junior Ty Smith led them in scoring with 9 points (Averaged 19).
  • Munster did a nice job of running their sets and getting good looks. Hemmelgarn scored 6 early points but didn’t score again until the 4th. He also added 4 blocks.
  • 6'3" Junior Luka Balac looked solid. Midrange game is there and can finish at the rim. Missed both 3’s he took, but shot is lefty smooth. He is strong and plays well through contact. Will create his own shot off the bounce.
  • It was a balanced effort offensively for Munster. Going forward it will be interesting to see who they go to when they need a big bucket down the stretch, or if Balac is that guy.
    • Senior PJ Katona led the Mustangs with 9 points and 5 steals.
