The Recap:  Tight game the whole way.  Southport gets the largest second half lead of seven midway through the fourth. Greensburg cuts the lead to three with the ball, but they were unable to convert on a 3pt attempt by Lane Sparks.

Four Takes:

  • Sparks, 6’2” junior guard, one of the top shooters in the state, doesn’t take a 3pter until under a minute.  The crafty left-hander finishes at the rim well and is good from mid-range, but he’s too big of an asset behind the 3pt line to not get more volume.
  • Southport relying heavily on three freshmen—AJ Dancler, 6’1” guard; Anthony Ball, 6’6” forward; Keyon Miller, 6’1” point guard.
    • Dancler Was excellent off ball screens and made good decisions in transition.
    • Ball has a varsity caliber body already, rebounded and finished against contact.
    • Miller was their primary ball handler when Brevin Jefferson, 6’2” senior guard, wasn’t in the game.
  • Greensburg’s Andrew Welage, 6’7” senior guard (committed to Wright State) didn’t get much of a chance to operate in space/isolation.  He only had one 3pt attempt in the first half, burying a fall away at the halftime buzzer.
  • Matt Munoz, 6’6” senior forward for Southport, normally effective around the basket, hit well from mid-range.
