Home Game Center Game CenterGame Takes Game Takes: Cathedral 74, Brebeuf 45 By Jim R - December 3, 2022 FacebookTwitterReddIt Despite the score, there weren't big runs by Cathedral, but this game was pretty much over by the end of third quarter. Cathedral's best lineups tonight had Kamari Slaughter in them. The 6'4" senior guard didn't start, but when he entered he immediately impacted the game. He was able to get downhill and finish, which up to that point, wasn't happening for Cathedral. Jake Davis was his usual combination of long range sniper and rim protector. He took a charge (his usual) and contested shots at the rim vertically. He hit three 3PTers in the first half, and in the second half drove a closeout to score. Side note: He's evidently two charges away from the state career record, a stat I didn't know was kept. Brebeuf's junior class is as good as advertised, especially Evan Haywood. He was excellent from the 3PT line, and as the game was still in doubt, it kind of felt if Reis Butcher and he could get going, they could climb back in it. Butcher showed the ability to initiate offense. He didn't show much of an outside shot tonight, but his length, athleticism and ball handling were on display tonight. Merrick Macaluso was a terror on the offensive glass in the first half. He was keeping Brebeuf within striking distance. Cathedral cleaned it up in the second half...hence the score. Hate to put out more on Brebeuf than Cathedral in a game like this, but I doubt even Coach Delaney was happy with how they played tonight. We all know their weapons, and they didn't really get going until they went to their bench tonight. It was also my first true look at Brebeuf's juniors. Two things are clear tonight. Cathedral holds up as the #1 team in 4A, and Brebeuf holds up as a clear contender in 3A.
