Lafayette Journal and Courier Hoops Classic takes place Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week at Lafayette Jeff

Monday, December 2

6:00pm - Benton Central (1-1) vs Lafayette Jeff (1-0)

  • BC:  Connor Hall's, 6'4" junior forward, 25 point, 13 rebound effort led BC in a season opening win over Frontier.
  • LJ:  Two sets of brothers carry the load, all four are outstanding shooters -
    • Braxton Barnhizer, 6'3" senior guard, Brooks Barnhizer, 6'6" junior guard, Avery Beaver, 6'2" senior guard, Ashton Beaver, 6'1" junior guard

7:30pm - Harrison (1-0) vs. Twin Lakes (1-0)

  • H:  Jordan Walters, 6'5" senior forward, stuffs a boxscore
  • TL:  Always seems to have a balanced attack as four players reached double figures in their opener
    • Jace Stoops, 6'4" senior forward, Brayden Houser, 6'1" senior point guard, Carson Gutwein, 6'3" junior forward, Clayton Bridwell, 5'10" sophomore point guard

Tuesday, December 3

6:00pm - Lafayette Central Catholic (1-0) vs McCutcheon (0-1)

  • LCC:  Carson Barrett is a walking triple-double (or as close as it gets in a 32 minute game).  The 6'5" senior combo wing should see an uptick in scoring this year as his shot continues to improve.
    • AJ Bordenet, 6'0" junior guard, Nate Webb, 6'4" senior forward, Clark Barrett, 6'5" sophomore forward
  • M:  Playing without injured senior guard Rowan Farrell is going to be a struggle on the offensive, but it should see some improvement through the season as talent, yet inexperienced players get more acclimated.  Key among those is freshman point guard Dravyn Lawhorn.

7:30pm - West Lafayette (1-0) vs Covington (0-0)

  • WL:  George Karlaftis about stands out on a basketball court as well as he does on a football field.  The 6'4" senior load of a man child anchors anything mid-range and in on a team that took 99 3pters the whole season.
    • Will Lasater, 6'8" senior forward, Tyler Boyle, 6'2" senior point guard
  • C:  By contrast, Covington took 519 3pters last season, making 200.  Look for that trend to continue as they return their top three scorers from last year.  Senior guard Colton Brown, 5'11" senior guard, made (85) almost as many as WL took.
    • Caleb Ellmore, 6'0" senior guard, Logan Pinkerton, 5'11" junior guard

Other Top Games on Tuesday

Fort Wayne Blackhawk at Fort Wayne North

  • FWB:  The defending 1A champions make their 2019-2020 debut, Caleb Furst, 6'9" junior center, leading the way, along with classmates Zane Burke and Marcus Davidson.
